Yes: we have the tattoos to prove it. And this blog is written by two of us.
My name is Joelle. My last name is not Jots; it’s just catchy. I went as Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Halloween when I was eight years old and I’ve had a love affair with all things Joss Whedon ever since. Except that one Glee episode. It’s all been very tasteful, don’t worry. The stories, characters, lessons, and messages Whedon has created have meant so much to me that, yes, I will go through every movie and every episode of every show (but not every comic! No thank you) to document exactly why.
Disclaimer: If you haven’t watched the shows we discuss, beware of spoilers. Since B and I have watched these shows multiple times,
we can’t promise that we’ll never allude to future episodes/events we will almost always allude to future episodes/events. It would be pretty hard, knowing the whole story, to leave parts out–so just be wary of that!
Joelle is right, we do have tattoos to prove our adoration, but hopefully this project will do just as well.
My name is Bethany, but I typically go by B. Which seems particularly appropriate given the nature of the blog. Joelle is so much younger then me that it hurts me feelings. Buffy did not exist when I was 8. I didn’t fall in love with it until later high school but it certainly made an impression. I have since basically required any friend I make to watch it through with me and have also added Angel and Firefly along the way.
Despite our shared love of Joss, we have very different views on most things. Everything from characters and plotlines in the show to more or less our whole basic worldviews. I’m hoping this will challenge me to look at the shows I’ve loved for so long in a new light. 🙂
Our plan right now is to start with Season 1 of Buffy, adding Angel on chronologically. We’ll do 3 episodes a week, to be adjusted as necessary. We will take turns with one of us writing about the episode and the other writing a response so there will be some direct interaction and not just the two of us writing about the same things. At the end of each season, we will each do our own reviews of the whole season. I’m not promising it will always be deep and thoughtful. I know that I have a lot to say about the clothing choices in season 1. But I think no matter what direction we end up taking, we’re going to have a great time. So read us! And you know, join in the discussion!
